Photo Geek Gift Ideas
‘Tis the season for finding that something special that let’s someone know you didn’t make a mad dash to the 24-hour drugstore. Having a little trouble finding the perfect present for the photo geek in your life? There’s still time to dazzle them with your gift prowess. With a little help from this elf, of course.
Mini Microscope for iPhone ($29.99)
ThinkGeek is always a go-to for everything cool. The Mini Microscope for iPhone (4/4S) has 60x magnification with three powerful LEDs built-in. It attaches over your camera (sort of a partial case) so you can take awesometastic photos! You still have time to order for Xmas delivery without having to pay extra (U.S. domestic). Catch it in action, or something darn similar on Elementary. Sherlock approved, case closed. (And #1 on my wish list.)
While you’re there, check out the USB Snowbot just for fun. He has Knight Rider vision and rotating arms for a bit of desktop cheer.
iPhone Cable Trigger ($23.00)
Photojojo tops the mobile photography drool list. They have all the cool toys AND you get a dinosaur with your purchase. (Oh yeah!) The iPhone Cable Trigger pairs analog design with digital pow. Made to resemble a retro-style film canister, the trigger works with iPod, iPhone (3Gs, 4, 4s, 5) and iPad (except original since it doesn’t have a camera) as a remote shutter release. It plugs into your headphone jack and has a retractable cable (30 inches), so unlike those lights, you won’t be getting tangled.
Une Bobine for iPhone or Android ($30.00)
Before you checkout, have a look at the Une Bobine. It’s is a two-foot flexible cable that you can coil, bend and twist. It will charge your iPhone (iPod/3Gs/4/4s) and your Android phone but doubles as a limber “tripod.” Stash it in your bag and whip it out for a group shot. Plug it in and twist to watch video while you prep dinner. Use it for those hard to reach places… (Hey, who are we to judge?) Shipping is free if you purchase $50 or more. So many gadgets, so little time.
Vintage Camera Case for iPhone (on sale for $13.99)
Etsy is paradise for the lovers of crafty & original. This Vintage Camera Case by Jumblehut Inked is sure to make your photo geek drool. It’s available for iPhone 4/4s or iPhone 5 (on sale for $16.99) and comes in black, white or a clear case. May take up to a week to ship (ships from California, U.S.A) so you’ll have to be quick on the trigger for this one.
iPhone/iPod Dock & Table Lamp ($115.00)
While you’re still browsing Etsy (yep, you’ll be here for hours), take a look at this awesome collection of industrial-feel Dock and Table Lamps made with recycled wood, copper, etc. from Lin Mullins. They offer a dock for the 30-pin connector or the new lightning connector. Your photo geek will definitely get a charge out of this one. (They ship from Arizona, U.S.A. so plan accordingly.)
Gift Card Delight
If you dawdled a bit too long or just can’t decide, you won’t go wrong with any of these gift card ideas. Snatch them online and preen when your loved one shutters (grammatical artistic license in progress).
Personalize a greeting card from Treat. Then add an amount ($10-$200) which the recipient can redeem for gift cards (multiple retailers).
Shutterfly Gift Certificates so your photo buff can get prints, create a photo book, customize an iPhone case, put a photo on canvas and much more.
Etsy, Photojojo and ThinkGeek all offer gift cards as well.
That’s a Wrap
