If someone asked me if I had to delete every photo app except one what would it be, the answer would be simple, Hipstamatic.
The Hipstamatic app is the first “Photo” app I think I ever purchased for my iPhone. I had yet to learn anything about iPhoneography plus it had a really cool icon. Little did I know how much I would love this app. The beauty of it is in its simplicity. It combines the ease of digital photography with the beauty analog film. It provides everything you will need with a toggle on the front for picture quality, a shutter button, and flash. There’s just you, the lens, film, and flash combo of your choice or if you’re feeling adventurous you can shake it for a random combination. What comes out is a great quality square photo. I have to say that it’s made me a better photographer because without all the over the top editing tools it teaches you to rely on your eye for a great shot.
Hipstamatic comes standard with 4 lenses, 3 films, 3 flashes, and the stock black case. Once you have the app you can purchase many other lens/film/flash/case HipstaPaks right in the app. Over the years since its release of Hipstamatic the Synthetic Company has put out numerous updates and upgrades to this outrageously cool app on fairly regular basis. If you have stuck with it from the beginning and made all of the in app purchases you could have 22 lenses, 21 films, 10 flashes, and 17 different cases. Now keep in mind that not all of these special HipstaPaks are available all the time. Many of them are limited edition, but every so often the good people at Synthetic will release these HipstaPaks in large groups.
The app is so easy to use, you can change your lens, film, and flash with a swipe of the finger. There is a new update that allows you to create favorite combos and save them for quick accessibility. Once your film has developed you can even create stacks of photos and order prints directly from the HipstaMart in sizes ranging from 4 inches to 30 inches.
If you like to post your photos on social networks Hipstamatic lets you post directly to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, Tumblr, and Hipstaccount. It will even tag your photos you with #hipstamatic and the specific lens/film combination you used. If you like you can even enter your photos in Hipstamatic’s The Big Hipstamatic Show Photo Challenge which has an ever changing theme. You can also check out Hipstamatic.com for a ton of information including the Field guide that contains an Owner’s Manual, Camera Gear, and Pro Tips.
If you are on Instagram there are many great Hipstamatic themed feeds including @hipstaconnect and @hipstaroll to name a couple. On Twitter you can follow @hipstamatic the official Hipstamatic account and @HipstaChallenge for daily Hipstamatic challenges.
If you have this app you know how great it is. If you don’t I couldn’t recommend it enough. So check out.
Hipstamatic is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch (4th generation), iPad 2 Wi-Fi, iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G, iPad (3rd generation), and iPad Wi-Fi + 4G, Requires iOS 4.2 or later
