Emotion Modifier by Jian Gong is more than a little emo but it’s worth a few tears (no black eyeliner required). The ‘for iPad only’ will have some moving on. As I constantly shoot with my iPhone and nearly always edit on my iPad it works for me. And the Free part pretty much trumps all. (emotion: intrigued)
The app is and isn’t user-friendly so we’re sticking with emotional upheaval. Starting with irritation due to the low resolution, definitely needs some high res action. This is for iPad after all. So go on and stomp your foot, maybe make a few lewd gestures. I’ll wait. (emotion: exasperation)

From the image above, you’ll see you get some choices: Emotion Slider (5-color schemes), Emotion Axis (the 5-color schemes slimmed down), Emotion Word (I found this to be pretty useless unless you have found a favorite from the slider) and Image to Image (which is the coolest although the processing time is a downer.)

You get 6 pics with the app. I didn’t see the point until I used the Image to Image option (more on that later). Otherwise you can import your own pics using the + button in the top right corner. They don’t hang around though; once you close down, you’ll have to import them again. (emotion: ambivalent)

After choosing the photo you want to work with, find a theme that suits you and click go. Your photo will be altered using that color schematic. I recommend you begin with ‘Slider’. The color themes have some pretty nice combos and the names are unique. (This is where you’ll want to remember the ‘emotion’ you favor so you can enter it in ‘Word’ without scrolling to infinity.) Process is the same for ‘Axis’ and only differs with ‘Word’ in that you are entering the ‘emotion’ name of the theme. If you get lost, click the Home button in the top left corner. (emotion: interested)
The real power is in the Image to Image option. Here is where you can use a photo as your color scheme (kind of like an image filter). Make sure you’ve imported your photo(s) first and choose the one you want to work with as your image (will be on the left). Then pick one to apply as your color scheme (will be on the right).

Now the magic happens. (Filterholics: If you didn’t press download yet – emotion: dismay.) Using your own photos to influence an image is liberating! Sure there are other apps out there that do the same thing but this one does it quite well (barring the complete lack of respect for iPad awesomeness with the low res nonsense). And now you’ll find those pics that came with the app are pretty handy. (emotion: excitement)
Emotion Modifier (currently Free). There
are some tweaks to be made but at the easy price point of zilch I think it’s worth a go. Check it out and post your favorites to Instagram using our tag #PhotoCruncher and #EmoMod so we can visualize your mood. (emotion: anticipation)
